Micrometer head

In case of 0.01 mm scale
  1. Read the thimble end position on the sleeve in 0.5-mm unit.
     In case of the figure on the right: 7.5 mm
  2. Read the thimble value where the sleeve standard line and the thimble scale line match.
     In case of the figure on the right: 0.38 mm
  3. The value that the values in item 1 and 2 above are added is the current stage position.
     In case of the figure on the right: 7.88 mm

Scale (main scale) and vernier (sub scale)

In case of direct-acting stage with 0.1 mm scale
  1. Read the vernier zero position on the scale in 1-mm unit.
     In case of the figure on the right: 14 mm
  2. Read the vernier value where the scale mark on the scale and the scale mark on the vernier match.
     In case of the figure on the right: 0.7 mm
  3. The value that the values in item 1 and 2 above are added is the current stage position.
     In case of the figure on the right: 14.7 mm

Scale (main scale) and vernier (sub scale)

In case of rotation stage with 5’ scale
  1. It reads the vernier 0 position on the scale in 1-degree unit.
     In case of the figure on the right: 14°
  2. Read the vernier value where the scale mark on the scale and the scale mark on the vernier match.
     In case of the figure on the right: 45
  3. The value that the values in item 1 and 2 above are added is the current stage position.
     In case of the figure on the right: 14°45′

In case of oblique stage with 5’ scale
  1. It reads the vernier 0 position on the scale in 1-degree unit.
